Georgia Dem Jon Ossoff Responds To Trump’s Tweet About Him & It’s Brilliant

On Monday morning, in a characteristically angry tweet, President Trump referred to Georgia Democrat Jon Ossoff as a “super liberal Democrat” and accused him of wanting to “protect criminals, allow illegal immigration and raise taxes.”

A few hours later, Ossoff responded to the President’s tweet, saying that he is “misinformed.”

‘While I’m glad the President is interested in the race, he is misinformed.’

Ossoff also explained in his statement what his focus as a congressional candidate really is:

‘I’m focused on bringing fresh leadership, accountability, and bipartisan problem solving to Washington to cut wasteful spending and grow metro Atlanta’s economy into the Silicon Valley of the South.’

Ossoff, 30, is a Democrat running against a number of Republicans in a special election for Georgia’s Sixth Congressional District seat. The election takes place this Tuesday, and political analysts are predicting it will end in a runoff vote between Ossoff and Republican Karen Handel.

Jim Galloway, a political columnist for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, told The New Yorker on Monday:

‘If I had to put money on it, I’d say Ossoff is headed for a runoff against Karen Handel.’

Galloway did add as a caveat, though, that he thinks Ossoff will have a difficult time drawing voters away from Handel.

‘Ossoff is going to look for the support of college-educated women and independents. And they’re not going to be turned off by Handel.’

Ossoff has a tough road ahead of him, but the fact that he is expected to pull in enough votes to face off against one of his Republican opponents is proof that his hard work so far has not been in vain. He might not have the support of President Trump — no suprises there — but Ossoff has many people in his corner, as is evidenced by the millions of dollars he has raised from individuals donors from around the country.

President Trump’s disdain for Ossoff might actually have less to do with the fact that Ossoff is a Democrat and more to do with the fact that he has openly criticized the President in several of his TV ads.

In one ad, Ossoff warned of the possibility that Trump could “start an unnecessary war” with his unpresidential behavior:

‘He’s not only embarrassing us on the world stage — he could start an unnecessary war.’
