Fox News under investigation by New York State Division of Human Rights, attorney says

The New York State Division of Human Rights is investigating Fox News for allegations of sexual harassment and discrimination, according to attorney Lisa Bloom. Bloom filed a complaint in April and told Think Progress on Monday that a representative from the agency confirmed the investigation to her on Friday.

Bloom says the agency has spoken to two of her clients and is looking to interview a third. In the filing, Bloom says that her firm filed the complaint because Fox News has “the worst corporate culture I’ve heard of in 30 years as a civil rights attorney.”

From Bloom’s complaint (emphasis hers):

Over the past thirteen years, dozens of women have reported egregious sexual harassment and retaliation at Fox News, with new claims constantly coming to light. The company frequently pays women to remain silent and leave the company while the perpetrators and enablers keep their jobs. Others are scared into silence by the company’s well-documented intimidation tactics, including using its giant media platform to smear their reputations. Nearly all of the victims were not only driven out of Fox News, but the television industry entirely.

Bloom also states that her firm brought the complaint on behalf of the employees because many of them either signed non-disclosure agreements or had complaints that were “time barred,” and therefore were unable to file with the SDHR personally.

Former CEO and extremely dead person Roger Ailes was accused of sexual assault and harassment over his multi-decade career by multiple women, leading to his resignation in July of 2016. Gretchen Carlson, the most high-profile accuser, settled with Fox News for $20 million. Less than a year after Ailes’s resignation, it was revealed that Fox News had shelled out close to $13 million over the years to women who had accused former “O’Reilly Factor” host Bill O’Reilly of sexual harassment. O’Reilly was fired less than a month after the story broke.

Fox News is also being sued by more than 10 current and former employees for racial discrimination.
