I’m thrilled that my colleague Phillip Swagel is set to be the subsequent director of the Congressional Finances Workplace. Swagel is a wonderful economist who will command the respect of CBO’s first-rate employees and whose evaluation as CBO director will carry monumental authority. And Swagel will shield and strengthen CBO’s tradition of constructing sound analytical judgments which might be unbiased of partisan politics. CBO is likely one of the most trusted and revered establishments in Washington. With Swagel as director, will probably be in nice palms. His integrity will add to CBO’s.

Swagel was Assistant Secretary for Financial Coverage on the US Division of Treasury within the Bush (43) administration. He helped implement the Troubled Asset Reduction Program and he was accountable for evaluation within the areas of housing, monetary markets, healthcare, and macroeconomic forecasting. Beforehand, he was chief of employees and senior economist on the White Home Council of Financial Advisers and an economist on the Federal Reserve Board and Worldwide Financial Fund.

Swagel is at present a professor in worldwide financial coverage on the College of Maryland’s College of Public Coverage. He holds a PhD in economics from Harvard.

Since first becoming a member of AEI in 2005, Swagel has been a valued member our group. He’s a beautiful colleague and the nation is fortunate to have him as CBO director.
