Troy Baker, the legendary video game voice actor that plays Bruce Banner in the upcoming Marvel’s Avengers game, has reacted to some of the backlash about the character models in the game. His choice of words is somewhat colourful.
When the first trailer for Marvel’s Avengers game landed online, a chorus of voices pointed out that the characters in it didn’t quite resemble their movie counterparts. Since this game is set in a different continuity, this shouldn’t have come as too much of a surprise. But still, everyone is so used to the Marvel Cinematic Universe versions of Cap, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk and Black Widow that these new versions took a bit of getting used to.
And now, being in a unique position to comment, Baker has reacted to this situation. Speaking at Manchester Comic-Con, which Push Square reported on, the actor said this: “We’ll always be on someone’s sh*t list, right? So when they launched the latest trailer and put it out there, the immediate backlash from fans was, ‘It doesn’t look like Chris Evans! It doesn’t look like Robert Downey Jr!’ Well, you know who it does look like? It looks exactly like Iron Man. It looks exactly like Captain America. It looks exactly like Bruce Banner.”
Baker added: “For me, the second they showed me what Bruce looked like, I was like, ‘Oh, you stole from the Ultimates.’ It looks 100 per cent like the guy from Ultimates. And I’m like, ‘That’s my Bruce Banner. That’s the guy that literally ate New York and cannot reconcile the guilt.’”
Nolan North, who is voicing Tony Stark in the game, added this: “I think we’re doing real justice to the true nature of the characters and to the real fans of the comic books.”
We’ll be able to get used to the character designs when Marvel’s Avengers game launches on 15 May 2020 for PS4, Xbox One, PC and Google Stadia.
