A man was killed and three others injured including two young women and another man in a fatal shooting in Lynn, police said Saturday.
Lynn police responded to the Warren Street Playground Saturday night and found four people who were shot, according to a release from the Essex District Attorney’s Office. The man killed in the shooting was 34 years old, and the two women were 18 and 20 years old. A 49-year-old man was also injured.
Lynn Ward 6 Councilor Fred Hogan said he witnessed the shooting at the park during a neighborhood block party and an East Lynn vs. West Lynn basketball game. He said everybody ran down a nearby street as gunshots rang out.
“I arrived at the park, I turned the corner to go in the park and gunshots were coming at us, 10 to 15 gunshots, and we all ran to George Street,” Hogan said.
“There was a final gunshot on the court and that’s when the kid was murdered,” he said. “I ran over there, I took the kid’s pulse and I found that he was dead, and I secured the scene until the police got there.”
Hogan said basketball courts at the park were just re-done and over $50,000 in playground equipment has been installed.
“We’re now targeting that park to clean it up and make it better for our kids,” he said. “…It was just a tragic thing.”
City leaders are expected to attend a park cleanup at noon Sunday at the park after the crime scene was cleared.
The Essex DA, Lynn police and state police are investigating.
