Brazilian Independence Day Festival – Boston Herald

Brazilian food, music and dancing were highlights of the 24th annual Brazilian Independence Day Festival at Herter Park in Brighton Sunday. Grooversity, a percussion group led by Marcus Santos, got the festival started with a parade of musicians winding around vendors as spectators danced to the beat.

Heloisa Galvao, executive director of the Brazilian Women’s Group, said she started the festival with others 24 years ago as a way to “bridge the gap” between Brazilians and Americans, as well as other racial and ethnic groups in the Boston area.

“We want people to know more about our history, our culture, our language,” Galvao said. “We always have good music, live music, and activities for children.”
