If the president’s Twitter feed is any indication, the honeymoon between Donald Trump and his once-favorite cable news network appears to be winding down — and sources inside Fox News seem to agree.
According to DCReport, one longtime Fox News producer said, “I can’t tell you how unpopular Trump is here, and people are getting bolder about saying so.”
Sharpiegate — the scandal in which Trump claimed Alabama would be hit by Hurricane Dorian and then refused to admit he was wrong — drew fresh criticism from certain personalities at Fox News over the president’s behavior.
Host Shepard Smith castigated Trump last week for not only refusing to own his mistake but also for doctoring a National Weather Service map to pretend he had been correct.
“Why would the president of the United States do this?” Smith said. “He decries fake news that isn’t and disseminates fake news that is. Think China pays the tariffs. The wall is going up. Historic inauguration crowds. The Russia probe was a witch hunt. You need an ID to buy cereal. Noise from windmills causes cancer. It’s endless!”
And Smith isn’t alone in calling out the president: “Fox’s longtime political analyst and frequent Trump supporter Brit Hume fired back at Trump after Trump ripped the network for hiring left-wing panelists like former DNC chair Donna Brazile and Juan Williams.”
In August, Trump tweeted: “The New Fox News is letting millions of GREAT people down! We have to start looking for a new News Outlet. Fox isn’t working for us anymore!”
Hume responded: “Fox News isn’t supposed to work for you.”
