Ruben Fleischer Teases the Evolved

It’s been ten years since we last hung out with the Zombieland gang, and things will be a bit different when we catch back up with them this Halloween season for Zombieland: Double Tap. For starters, the gang has become way more adept at killing zombies in the past decade, but this time around they’ll have to deal with a whole new breed of the classic movie monster.

The characters refer to the sequel’s evolved zombies as “T-800s,” of course a reference to Terminator. Director Ruben Fleischer teases their arrival in a new chat with Fandango.

I think our heroes are a little complacent because the zombies don’t present much of a challenge anymore,” Fleischer told the site. “They’ve started to categorize them into different groups. There’s ones that they call Homers, who are kind of the dumber zombies. There are the Ninjas who are a little bit more crafty and they might sneak up on you. And then there’s the Hawkings, who are smarter zombies.”

He continued, “Then there’s a new kind of zombie that they haven’t met before called a T-800, a name for the infamous Terminator. These T-800s are a much more dangerous, threatening form of zombie. For the first time, I think our heroes feel like they’re in true jeopardy because of this newly evolved form of zombie.”

Emma Stone, Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, and Abigail Breslin are all reprising their roles, with Zoey DeutchAvan Jogia, Luke Wilson and Rosario Dawson joining them.

In this next installment, through comic mayhem that stretches from the White House and through the heartland, the zombie slayers must face off against many new kinds of zombies that have evolved since the first movie, as well as some new human survivors. But most of all, they have to face the growing pains of their own snarky, makeshift family.

The 10-years-later sequel is releasing on October 18.
