Starbucks Japan’s night masquerade party is shaping up to be the Halloween event of the year.
Just last week, Starbucks Japan announced their seasonal beverages for Halloween, with the unveiling of the “Halloween Red Night Frappuccino” and the “Halloween Masquerade Raspberry Mocha”.
Designed to conjure up the spirit of a masquerade party, each Frappuccino came with a small mask that could be slipped onto the straw, and after trying one earlier in the week, we thought our time at the masquerade party had come to an end.
However, little did we know the fun had just begun, as Starbucks revealed yesterday that a brand new guest of honour would be arriving at the party, and this one would be called the Dark Night Frappuccino.
Like the Red Night beverage, this new Frappuccino contains a sweet and tart red berry sauce made from raspberries, cranberries and strawberries, blended with a white chocolate brownie. It also has the same whipped cream, black cocoa powder and red berry sauce topping, but this one is a whole lot darker, as the black cocoa powder has been blended throughout the entire beverage, giving it a jet black appearance.
Designed to match the darkness of the night, this special queen will make her debut at the night masquerade party at precisely 5:22 p.m. on 18 October. This might seem like an odd time for a beverage to go on sale, but it’s the moment of sunset, and as customers await her appearance, they can feel like they’re at the party with her.
That’s not the only surprise in store for customers, however, as Starbucks will be releasing two “cup stands” at precisely the same time. These winged “stands” are designed to act like cosplay outfits, so you can dress your beverages up for the Halloween party while you consume them.
▼ The stands come in black and white and fit the tall-sized Starbucks Frappuccinos.
While the Halloween Frappuccinos can be purchased separately for 590 yen (US$5.43) plus tax, the stands are not available separately. Instead, they need to be purchased as a set with either the Red Night or Dark Night Frappuccino for 990 yen (plus tax).
With two new Frappuccinos, cup cosplay outfits, and a gorgeous limited-edition Halloween drinkware range, it’s shaping up to be a very happy Halloween this year at Starbucks. Just be sure to get in quick so you can enjoy the Masquerade Party before it ends on 31 October.
