Gay Star News is back in business with a Facebook soft launch

LGBTI publisher Gay Star News (GSN) has returned to business following an buyout by Iconic Labs to rescue the brand from oblivion.

A soft launch has seen news articles begin to populate the GSN Facebook feed for the first time since the title entered insolvency over the summer, with display revenues already bringing in much-needed income from the Facebook advertising network.

This activity presages a formal relaunch of an all-new website following a complete rebranding of the business which will henceforth be identified solely by the GSN acronym.

Chief executive officer, John Quinlan, said: “Since acquiring GSN, we have been working on leveraging the strong position it already holds in its marketplace, as well as our in-house capabilities, to build on the platform’s potential and make it a profitable business centre. We have already successfully soft-launched the platform and are generating revenue from Facebook advertising. Revenue is expected to grow following the launch of GSN’s redesigned website and I look forward to updating shareholders as we progress.”

GSN has built a loyal following online with over 800,000 Facebook followers, prompting Iconic Labs to pay out £33k for the remnants of the business in September.

The need for a dedicated LGBTI press was demonstrated recently by a Polish newspapers ‘LGBT-free zone’ sticker stunt.
