Diplomat’s Testimony Implicates Fox Hosts In Slander Campaign Against Ambassador

Deputy Assistant Secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs George Kent highlighted during his congressional testimony the involvement of several Fox News hosts in a “campaign of slander” against former Ukraine Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch.

According to RawStory, Kent told impeachment investigators that Rudy Giuliani, President Donald Trump’s personal attorney, relied on Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham, among others, to push a false narrative about Yovanovitch in an effort to have her removed from her post.

Kent said a coordinated attack against the ambassador began in March with an editorial in The Hill by conservative writer John Solomon. The effort then moved to Fox, where “both the Hannity Show and the Laura Ingraham show covered this topic extensively,” Kent told Congress.

He also said that Solomon’s op-ed was riddled with inaccuracies and outright false information that might have been “entirely made up in full cloth.”

Giuliani’s smear campaign “pushed out multiple false stories about the embassy’s activities that included a supposed disinformation campaign against former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort, a coverup of purportedly nefarious activities by the Bidens, and funding from billionaire George Soros,” Kent said.

Eventually, Donald Trump Jr. and the president himself jumped on board, amplifying the smear campaign significantly.

Their efforts were successful: Yovanovitch was abruptly recalled from her post in May.
